nothing interesting going on at the moment. riz has a job which is quite good. nice to see him work and be happy about it. although his hours are crap and stupid and silly and he doesn't get a single day off. but this means i can take more time off, or in other words do less overtime and look for proper jobs meanwhile. rather than getting paid shite wages for listening to customers complaining and moaning.

i hope i don't lose this post. a few days back i finally got the drive to write a post and then while actually trying to publish it, managed to lose it in the cyber space.

my work with sky is going well. can get a wee bit crazy at times when there are people who ring up with the strangest of queries. some people call to argue about being charged 2 extra pence, which is fair enough, but the point is that they ring up a number that costs them 8 pence (or maybe 6, i can't remember) a minute, and they argue for like half an hour. to be honest i am not sure if it's worth all the trouble.

and why the hell do old people get up at the crack of dawn, i fail to comprehend. it was a saturday and i was working from 8am. this lady calls up, and i am sure she was lovely etc., but what the hell, she called up because she saw an advert on hallmark for a magic pen and she decided that she wants one too. so what does she do? the one obvious thing, call up sky customer service!

we also get people calling up cos they didn't get that pizza they ordered using the interactive. at any point, it does not occur to them to actually maybe try and ring up the pizza place. of course not. cos that would be so stupid, like.

most of the day is fine though. i got a 92% for my first call-monitoring, which is good i suppose. but apparently nothing to be proud of cos below 90% is a fail anyway.

i have also started working at the uni doing my part time voluntary java programming, which of course is so much fun!

not that you want to know, and the only reason i am writing this down is to make it clearer to myself. you see, i understand better when things are written down. i am working for adecco for 13 weeks even though i went through on to this project via RHL recruitment, who hire people for RHL who are making me work for sky! there! that makes perfect sense, i think!

anyway, i am sure everyone is bursting to ask me how my first day/week at work was/is. well, i'll put you out of your misery then. it was brilliant. met all these new people who seem lovely (although people usually are lovely when you first meet them anyway!) my trainer is quite good, we seem to be going through quite a lot of the training material quite quickly, then spend the rest of the time (better part of the day!) playing games and quizzes! hangman, who am i, stupid intelligence test questions, lots of quizzes, and today we spent an hour playing card games! golly, if that's what i am paid to do every day, i don't mind working at all!

it's all going very well. but it is going to get serious from next week when i go to my actual working place. another week of training then we'll be on our own. that should be interesting. 12 hour shifts of listening to angry customers shouting cos they got billed incorrectly. there could be a few interesting stories there, and from what i have heard, it definitely is a laugh most of the time. the hours do kill though.

and it is weird coming back home and then not having to face the guilt of not doing howework. actually i miss it in a way. i just don't know what to do with my evenings, and that is shite. very annoying. i hope i'll appreciate them more once riz is here, but i definitey don't look forward to them just now.

strange thing is that one of the girls from work lives in the flat next to me! ridiculously close and very weird.

how many people get into customer service these days? surely, they only ever got the job cos they passed thier interview. this assumption is based on the fact that i went through the same. hell, they even like to do numeracy and literacy test, sometimes, they really do. and what about the training period that you have to go through? and yet, everytime you phone a company/service/organisation, and you have to deal with the customer service, they make sure they give you wrong details and get you more confused than what you started off as.

i rang up the job centre plus to find out about how to go about getting my national insurance number, so that they could help me and direct me to the right place...what they did instead was to set me off on a ride that would take five fucking phone calls to actually get to the right local office! when i eventually do get the right office, i am told that the earliest i can have an appointment is the exact day and time that i am not available. and it is physically impossible for me to be present at two different places at the exact same time. so there! very nice. anyway, managed to get a time and appointment sorted, just hope i don't completely forget about it, since it is a week monday, and the nearest monday round the corner is like one week away. and then i'll get the nin not before 6 weeks from my interview date, to a couple of months after my interview. how convenient is that? nothing bad, just have to pay more tax, i think. need to check that out. stupid government and its tax system.

went for a swim with k, and it was very nice and relaxing. but one of the downsides of going swimming is that, one, you always smell of chlorine ages after you've washed, showered and dried, and two, you never know if someone has had a wee in the pool. anyway, am knackered now. nicely stuffed, and eating some minty chocolate just now. and if someone hasn't tried it yet, i do recommend the 'tesco value: after dinner mints', they are better than that after eight shit, and are real value for money. a little note at the bottom of the pack says 'quality guaranteed' and it's not a lie!

and if anyone is wondering why i am writing so much jargon just now, it's cos i don't have any photos to post and i need to do something to get those abuses and spam coming in!

speaking of spam, i managed to make the comments postable (if you know what i mean, you'll stop trying to tell me that's not a word) by blogger users only, and still managed to get spam.

landed me a job, finally

well the title says it all really! it is a call centre job with an outsourcing company called adecco. shitty place i shall be working in, but i am no one to complain. at least my first week, which is supposed to be scary is in town (where i have to be for my training), so that should make me feel better. i start next week, and am looking forward to actually doing something where i get paid instead of sitting on my arse doing bugger all. a 13 week temporary contract just to make sure i don't do this all my life. some smart suits, good shoes, that's all i need right. the interviewer also said something about a smile but we'll see about that. first week i have to be at the training centre at something like 8:45am so i doubt if i'd be smiling. they'll just have to learn to deal with it.

i think i'll have more stories to write about once i am actually working, and my blog will eventually turn out to be a vent for all my frustration at work. how cool is that? i'd be able to whinge with a reason! i really am looking forward to work. i swear.

now to the more interesting things in life, i have woken up not to long back (7 minutes and 37 seconds to be precise) and the weather outside looks bright and sunny. definitely a day to be spent outside and made the most of, and not worth sitting inside doing stupid stuff like blogging, you know what i mean. i can hear an ambulance outside. not the best day for someone i guess. at least it's not misty today, last night i went out to tesco to buy me some nie chocolate and food, just before twelve, it was so bloody misty, couldn't see a thing. wasn't wearing my glasses so that didn't help. maybe i really should get the fuck out of here and head to the meadows...a certain danny wallace...a certain join me...

well so as the title says it all, i have some new body piercings! got them done last tuesday; a new pair of ear piercings, on the lobes again, not through the cartilage (ouch!), and another one on the nose. have to wear a bloody nose stud, but hopefully that will be sorted once the wound has healed in a couple of weeks.

shall have some scary pics once i look less bruised and tortured.

firstly, my visa got refused, which means i am going back. damn. i don't want to but i have to. so i suppose i'll be leaving latest by the 16th which is when riz is booked. shall try and apply again in summer under another scheme, and see if they allow me back in then? guess i'll just have to wait to find out.

secondly, it's a happy day tomorrow for riz and i :o) three years, wow! time flies.
